Chief Randy Wilson

Chief Randy Wilson

Randal D. “Randy” Wilson , a veteran of over thirty years in Kansas law enforcement, came to the Mission Police Department in 2003 as part of a career that began in 1975 with the Topeka Police Department as a reserve officer, a deputy sheriff with the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department and the Wichita Police Department where, after twenty-five years of service, he retired in 2001 with the rank of Detective Lieutenant.  Upon his retirement from the WPD, Chief Wilson was appointed Chief of Police for the city of Maize, Kansas, located on the northwest edge of the Wichita metro area.  He is the father of a grown son and daughter, and the proud grandfather of three.  Since moving to the Kansas City area, Chief Wilson and his wife, Staci, have enjoyed learning about all that the Metro has to offer.

Chief Wilson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice, both from Wichita State University.  He is a graduate of the 217th Session of the FBI’s National Academy, Quantico, Virginia, as well as graduating from the Kansas Police Administrator’s Seminar, the 2004 Session of the FBI Central States Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminars (LEEDS) and is a member of the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police (KACP), Kansas Peace Officer’s Association (KPOA) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).  Chief Wilson also sits on the Training and Legislative Committees, chairs the Finance Committee for the KACP, is a member of the Forensics Committee of the IACP, and is currently serving as a member of the Attorney General’s Amber Alert Task Force, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation’s External Advisory Board, and the Attorney General’s Model “Stalking Policy” Development Committee.

Chief Wilson is strongly committed to community involvement and problem-solving, embodied in the community policing philosophy.  “In this day and age of shrinking budgets and resources that have become more and more limited, police departments can no longer be everything to everyone.  I believe that the best way that we can benefit our community is to form strong partnerships with, and to act as a resource for, our citizens; in other words, to help them help themselves.”
